Cleaning, Oral Hygiene and Prevention

Dentistry is founded on the principle of prevention. All patients are recommended regular dental scaling and examinations. Not only do they help you prevent dental problems, they leave your gums and your body healthier, and your teeth cleaner and whiter. A professional dental cleaning/scaling removes hard plaque that cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone. It also involves a fluoride treatment and polish to help protect and smooth out your teeth. Even if you haven’t had a cleaning in over two years, it’s never too late to treat your teeth.

You will be shown how to use oral hygiene tools like toothbrush and floss properly; and also areas of your teeth and gums where you may need to pay more attention to. Last but not least, we will be happy to answer questions you may have regarding your teeth, gums and other oral-facial tissues.

What are some preventative measures I can take?

  • Brush with a fluoride toothpaste

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush after each meal

  • Floss daily before bedtime

  • Use an oral rinse like salt water after flossing

  • Use additional helpful tools like electric toothbrush or Waterpik

  • Avoid sugary foods and tobacco
